| /u/Wiggie49 I always felt like Malls would be the best place for an airsoft of paintball arena if not a laser tag arena. They just need much sturdier and taller railings so idiots can't climb them and fall to their deaths. |
| /u/DistinctlyIrish Laser tag would be the only acceptable option for pretty much any mall owner given the semi-destructive nature of airsoft and paintball, but I agree that these dead malls could be easily converted into indoor action spaces that draw crowds again. Especially as the heat keeps increasing and people need more indoor spaces again to be during the daytime, I suspect malls that have been turned into giant trampoline laser-tag parkour arenas will be en vogue. |

| /u/Surroundedonallsides Mentioned this in the parent comment beforei read yours, but they had this in Dallas, although it wasnt a mall it was an old, massive, warehouse from the 1930s converted into a paintball arena and haunted house. Its closed now, and building sits vacant. I imagine theres a lot of costs even just maintaining the building to avoid lawsuits over mold/materials collapsing, etc. |

| /u/frotc914 So indeed, the US economy is truly fucked. While I agree with you big-picture, commercial retail spaces of this size have been in oversupply since like...2010. The fact that one might sit empty for over a year is not really a sure sign that we are screwed. Odds are this was a funiture store, office supply, or Best Buy or something that has basically been completely supplanted by internet shopping. |
| /u/kitsunewarlock I've heard that some big-box stores like Wal-Mart in more rural areas will run their stores to the ground and pack up for a new location in an adjacent city/town because they can get sweetheart deals on opening a new store. The old lots are too big for anyone else to rent, and usually require too much work to renovator for much more than a seasonal store that just needs shelf space but doesn't need the more expensive upgrades that involve HVAC or plumbing. |

Next year comes around, no more Smaller Spirit Halloween 💔💔💔💔 I miss Smaller Spirit Halloween so much, but it's just because I knew the layout by heart. It's like going to another town's Walmart. |

| /u/applepiehoneymuffin I work in the signage industry and create banners for customers all the time. The only reason I could see this happening is because the customer is unhappy with the original size they ordered. Or the sign company produced the banner at the wrong size. |
| /u/passwordlostnoemail It could be the property owner enforcing contractual obligations on the leaser; it could be Spirit corporate using a smaller sign already in stock until the right-sized one is received to the specific location; it could be an initial vendor error like you said that is now being rectified... Bottom line is the new sign has bigger print and will grab more eyeballs. |

| /u/ExtremeMuffin Considering spirit halloweens business model of renting stores for only a couple of months I wonder if they leased this same location last year, and when they vacated the store they didn't take the sign down, and nobody has moved into the space since then. When spirit Halloween leased the space again this year they ordered a new sign not realizing the old one was still up. So the sign company showed up to put up the sign and they are doing so because they aren't paid to care that there is already a sign for the same store in that location. |

| /u/Rock_Strongo Almost certainly the sign company's fault and they re-printed the bigger sign for free. Highly doubt Spirit would have bothered to order and pay for the bigger one if it was their own mistake. |
| /u/Zargnoff I worked for Spirit. They maintain a catalog of banners and re-use them year after year. Its likely the originally requested sign looked smaller than it did in the mock-up, so they just ordered and installed a bigger one from the back catalog, end of the season they will pay for a single removal of both signs. Instead of a removal and install right now. |
| /u/Several-Action-4043 It's very common in the sign industry for customers to see what they purchased in real life and want to change it. A photo mock up can only do so much to show perspective. It's just as likely they simply saw the first one and said, no, bigger and bought the bigger one too. |
